Tribute to Jesús Camacho Serrano “Fuensi”

Born in Alcantarilla, Murcia on October 7, 1945, Jes Camacho was a paradigmatic artist, multidisciplinary and unique in its kind. Underground Barcelona lived in the sixties and seventies, the one of the masked Rrollo, with Nazario Luque, Javier Mariscal and Ocaña, whom he guided in his first steps in the world of painting and also in that of the nonsense.

Camacho began to earn a living as a price painter in a furniture and decoration house where he signed the pictures with different pseudonyms according to the different styles, because he had a chameleon soul, he liked to transform himself, dress up and to have fun . His art is an example of the times he lived: tardofranchism and the so-called transition, “destape” and the discovery of freedom of expression. He was always a free spirit.

From his Barcelona home, a flat on Princesa Street near the Picasso Museum, he went to live in Sitges, on Carrer Sant Bartomeu to ca Ms. Catasus from where the giant of the Martyrdom came out one afternoon at the Festa Major. The cosmopolitan and artistic atmosphere of Sitges captivated him, because he was a dreamer like Rusiñol, like Pepito Zamora, like Serrano, and in this town he found friends and lovers, dismay and relax. He collaborated with La Cubana, Sitgetana Theater Company, Delikatessen and Campanadas de Boda.

Jesus Camacho was part of the Bohemia of Sitges, night and carnivorous to the bone marrow and at the same time collaborating with religious traditions such as the Corpus or the Cruz de Mayo, who celebrated with parsimony decorating his balcony at Marquès street Mont-Roig, above the Frankfurt Sun and Shade.

His most important facet was that of a painter holding the record of continuous time painting on the Ramblas of Barcelona, he had exhibitions in Ibiza, Mexico and the USA where he lived. In Sitges, Estudio Camacho opened the street of Santa Tecla and was one of the entertainers of the Trailer, the first gay club in Spain.

The generation to which Jesus belongs did not have it easy, he was a fighter for the normalization of the homosexual act.
