PrEP means “pre-exposure prophylaxis”. The word “prophylaxis” means prevention or control of the spread of an infection or disease. PrEP is a measure used when people who are HIV-negative, but exposed to high risk of HIV infection, take a medication every day to reduce their chances of contracting it.
The medication used for PrEP is called Truvada. If a person is exposed to HIV, having the drug PrEP in the bloodstream can keep HIV from sticking and spreading throughout the body.
If you want to know more about the Prep, how to acquire it or have more information, next Monday, June 10 at 6:30 pm, the Stop Sida organization will hold this informative workshop.
